Charity Race Places for 2017

You Are Here:Charity Race Places for 2017
Lighthouse

We’re incredibly pleased to be supporting Ipswich’s Lighthouse Women’s Aid again this year.

Lighthouse do tremendously supportive and incredibly empowering work with women and children who have experienced domestic abuse and we feel that the Farmhouse Five is in such a positive position to contribute to the charity, that we want to create as many avenues as possible to do so!

They were one of the charities that Green Health Events supported last year – take a look at the blog for more – and please carry on reading here. If you’re able to extend your charitable efforts to help Lighthouse in 2017, we’d all be delighted…

Here’s a little bit more about the charity, for those of you who aren’t familiar with their work:

Lighthouse Women’s Aid is a local, independent charity providing emotional support to women and children following the traumatic experience of domestic violence. Every year they work with hundreds of women to flee an abusive relationship to build a brighter future.

Lighthouse operates a 15-room refuge in Ipswich, as well as a women’s and children’s wellbeing centre and an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) service for high-risk victims of abuse to get one-to-one support.

Annually the refuge takes in 100 to 150 women and children. The IDVA service helps 140 to 150 women every month, while in the last year Lighthouse has supported around 800 people through its wellbeing centre.

The wellbeing centre is a unique place where women and children receive advice, encouragement, new skills and the support of the staff team to make informed decisions and move forward with their lives.

Domestic abuse is still a huge issue in our society, with 1 in 4 women experiencing abuse at some time in their lives. That means all of us will know someone who has suffered, is suffering or will suffer domestic abuse.

Laura Squirrell, from the Lighthouse Women’s Aid, talks about the collaboration with the Farmhouse Five for Females and says:

‘Here at Lighthouse, we’re delighted to have been invited to be charity partners with the Farmhouse Five for Females again for 2017. It’s a fantastic event, promoting the joy of running for women in a fun and supportive atmosphere. If there are women out there now reading this and unsure of whether to sign up, my advice is be brave and go for it. It’s a great experience!’

We appreciate that it can feel like a heavy topic, so we’ve teamed up with Lighthouse to create several light and joyful ways in which we can all support them.

First and foremost with our Charity Race Places!

We’ve made arrangements so that not only will Green Health Events be supporting the charity as a company, as well as on the day with our fabulous raffle* again, but also so that you can support the charity on an individual level.

We have arranged that you can enter the Farmhouse Five 2017 on behalf of Lighthouse Women’s Aid via one of our ‘Charity Places’, whereby we are asking that you raise £100** as a minimum to go to Ipswich’s Lighthouse Women’s Aid, and you will get your place in the race for free!

In addition, there will also be a prize for the Top Charity Fundraiser! So all in, everyone gets to be a winner! (Another key objective of ours at Green Health Events! : )

There will be some added bonuses for Charity Place holders, which will be announced in the New Year…

Here is how to register for a Charity Place:

You will need to contact the fabulous Laura Squirrell at Lighthouse – contact details below – and say that you wish to take a Charity Place at the Farmhouse Five 2017.

You will be advised how to set up a fundraising account with Virgin Giving Money and Laura will organise your entry with you, and then you can get busy raising funds!

Laura’s Contact Details at the Lighthouse:

* If you missed the event last year, then you also happened to miss the raffle of the year too! ; ) Honestly, it’s worth entering the race this year, just to have the chance to win one of the superb prizes that will be up for grabs at the race! ; )

** We hope that this is a manageable amount which doesn’t feel too onerous… But if you’re not quite able to raise the full amount, there will be contingency plans – Laura has the details – so please don’t feel that you can’t contribute and enter even if raising this amount feels a bit beyond your scope…no-one has to miss out (neither you nor the Lighthouse!).

With our sincere thanks

Dawn, the Green Health Events Team and the Lighthouse Women’s Aid
